Final Project

Our final assignment was self directed. We were instructed to finish with 8-10 prints, from a minimum of 8 rolls of film, preferably related to the artist we chose to present on in class. I presented on Robert Frank, which left the direction I could take pretty wide open as Frank's career is as varied as it is long. While I was shooting for this project I mostly had Frank's first major publication The Americans in mind.

For the project I shot 10 new rolls of film, half in 120 on the Holga and half in 35mm in Baltimore City and the surrounding county. I also reviewed the the film I shot for the earlier projects from this semester to have the maximum number of images to chose from. I tried to 'follow my nose' while shooting and remain flexible to whatever was found during the search. The nebulous idea in my head while shooting was to focus on a juxtaposition of natural settings and landscapes to the architecture and cityscapes of the Baltimore. As I had on the earlier projects I again worked in Robert E. Lee park and the Fells Point neighborhood of Baltimore City. In the end I found that the images of Fells Point alone worked best. I selected these eight images, presented as diptychs, to best represent what I feel and think of when I think of Fells Point.
